Question – I did note somewhere, one can only copyright the Birth Certificate name. I have ended up with my Christened name on all my registrations, licenses, ATO, Medicare etc etc which is different than my Birth Certificate / Birth Registration. Could I do a stat dec that I have used my christened name for over 60 years and copyright both Christened and Birth Cert names ?
Answer – The name you copyright is the name on the estate or the name that is being used by way of contract to access that estate. Your name on contracts is your business name/commercial name. You should be claiming the name you use in business, but becasue this is linked to your estate (BC name) if you have changed your name, eg by marriage or formal name change, then claim the BC name PLUS the commercial name.
